Bravin it with Bryan and Kelsey: Tackling the 28-inch pizza challenge
It’s something we all hold near and dear to our hearts.
Pizza.
But it turns out there is such a thing as too much pizza.
KBOI 2News morning anchors Kelsey Anderson and Bryan Levin rolled up their sleeves at Garbanzo’s Pizza in Meridian.
“Ready to make some pizza?” asked owner Michael Marlin.
The team began by rolling out some dough.
“Do you remember how they taught you to shoot a free throw in gym class to roll your hand like this,” said Marlin, imitating a free throw. “Just go the other way.”
Marlin explained that tossing the dough is a natural way to use centrifugal force to round out the dough and develop a crust.
But soon it was on to a much bigger challenge.
Garbanzo’s 28-inch pizza challenge.
“You have five pounds of dough sitting there,” Marlin said. “And then we are going to put three pounds of cheese on it. And then we are going to put almost a quart of sauce on it.”
That doesn’t even count the toppings.
“Come on,” Kelsey exclaimed.
After baking the behemoth, it was time to sit down.
“That’s the biggest thing I’ve ever seen,” Bryan said.
The two dug in.
Teams of two have 60 minutes to eat the entire pizza. Only one team has ever accomplished the feat – a professional eating pair.
“’Kelsey Anderson, take smaller bites!’” Kelsey said, imitating her mother.
The duo hung in there for about 25-30 minutes before calling it quits. They made it through about half the pizza.
As if the two hadn’t damaged their bodies enough there was one more task, paying for the $50 pizza.
